UCLA's Omega Sigma Tau Fraternity is hosting their annual Battle Royale dance competition on May 1st at Union Station.

From the official Battle Royale website:
Battle Royale is one of the biggest events hosted by a student organization on the UCLA campus, Omega Sigma Tau, that showcases four dance teams that originated from our campus.  People not from only UCLA, but all over Southern California come to see ACA Hip Hop, NSU Modern, and Samahang Modern battle it out for the Battle Royale Belt and the title as UCLA’s best dance crew.  We also showcase an exhibition performance from UCLA’s newest up and coming dance crew, D.S.C., comprised of both current UCLA students and alumni.  In the past, there has been over 1,400 attendees with celebrity judges such as Yuri Tag of Kaba Modern and Taeko Carroll of Fysh N Chicks.

Omega Sigma Tau has been a great friend to the Budokan of Los Angeles project, as proceeds from the event will benefit the BoLA!

More information, including tickets, is available at the Battle Royale website.

Pick up some tickets, show your support, and see some of what LA's best dance groups have to offer!

What is a Budokan?

Budokan roughly translates as "martial arts hall" in Japanese.  The name is derived from the Nippon Budokan, a large arena in Central Tokyo, Japan.   The arena was originally constructed for judo competition during the 1964 Summer Olympics, but today serves as a multi-purpose facility that caters to sports, entertainment and other activities.  Currently in the United States, there are numerous budokans which serve as multi-purpose centers for martial arts, team sports such as basketball and volleyball, community activities and other special events.
